The Major Arcana: The Fool's Journey Through Life
The the Tarot's Major Arcana chronicles the Fool's journey through life. A good way to look at it is in terms of a story, as it shares many common elements with myths and fairy tales. It is numbered from 0 to 21, but technically the Fool falls outside of it, so it's really 1 to 21. Like the Joker in a playing deck, the Fool is a wild card. Although the Fool initiates the journey, he is also the traveler and can be thought of as existing in each of the numbered cards. He represents ourselves progressing through the lessons of the Major Arcana. These 21 lessons can be organized in many different ways, but I like breaking them down into sets of 7. Once the 21st lesson is reached, it re-cycles itself, in the sense that we return again to the Fool and begin a new journey. The faces, events, and issues may be different, but the pattern to understanding is essentially the same.
The Fool 0 - The Fool

This is the card of new beginnings, clean slates, and a chance to start over. Ideally it comes with a sense of relief and fresh air, though it could also be a forced transition that leaves you stranded with nothing but a knapsack of bare essentials. In either case, you are entering uncharted territory, and much of what you will encounter will be unknown to you. Don't be afraid to ask advice from those with more experience. The Fool looks at the world through the innocence and purity of a child. Life is one big adventure, where every new sensation must be explored. It is a time of steep learning curves and great opportunity. Curiosity will be a vital asset to you, but so will caution. There is a fine line between being childlike and childish. The Fool, in his ignorance, has the potential to be... well, foolish! He leaps before he thinks, and if he does not watch his step, he could dive headlong off a cliff. Then again, timing is everything, and sometimes a leap of faith is necessary. Those who risk little, don't stand to gain much - especially in business ventures. Pay close attention to surrounding cards to understand what shade of Fool you're dealing with and always trust your intuition.
